Katherine at Shasta Dam
Completed in 1945 and located 12 miles northwest of Redding, Shasta Dam serves to control floodwaters and store surplus water runoff for irrigation in the Sacramento and San Joaquin Valleys. Along with providing maintenance of navigation flows and conservation of fish, it created Shasta Lake, a major recreational area in Northern California. Yes, yes, it also generates something important for civilized living called "electricity."
