Sierra in Historic Downtown Roseburg
Settled in 1851, the town was originally called Deer Creek, but was later named after Aaron Rose, who in 1854 plotted the townsite. It was incorporated in 1872, hence the date in the sign above. Today, Roseburg is home to around 20,000 and is the hub of a major lumbering industry and processes the products of sheep and cattle ranches, as well as fruit orchards. Visitors enjoy covered bridges, mid-1800's era homes and wineries. Roseburg is also the headquarters of Umpqua National Forest, an area known for its hunting and fishing. The area has been compared geographically and climatically with Italy and Southern France. We gather that many folks in those areas where Hippie Skivvies robes, too!
