Justin at Shaver Lake
It's a bit fuzzy, but we could swear Justin is wearing at least four pair of Hippie Skivvies in this photo, along with a rubber chicken in one hand and who-knows-what in his left. The point is, he sent in a photo from a very historic area for California.
A maze of flumes radiated out from the Shaver sawmill during the heyday of logging in what is today's Shaver Lake basin. The flumes enabled sawn lumber to move down the steep Pine Ridge grade without the expense and delay that went with the old mule-drawn freight wagons. By the spring of 1926, workers were busy clearing the site of the Shaver Lake dam. The community of Pine Ridge, located near the site of the original Humphrey's Clipper sawmill, played a major role in the development of eastern Fresno County. Highway 168 follows the old wagon routes, past today's Shaver Ranch, four miles below Shaver Lake.
